Be an About.com Topic Writer - Overview

Like Guides, Topic Writers are freelancers who work online and set their own schedules, giving them the flexibility to work when it suits them. There are other advantages, too, including a competitive compensation plan, support from our highly-trained editorial team, and the opportunity to take part in our PR program.

There are some differences between an About.com Guide and a Topic Writer. Topic Writers will write content on topics that are more specialized than what About.com Guides cover. Like Guides, Topic Writers will write a blog and informative actionable content that users want to read. Topic Writers, unlike About.com Guides, will not be responsible for a weekly newsletter or moderating a discussion forum.

Topic Writers go through an evaluation program, in which they submit writing samples to an About.com editor and create a sample site. Candidates can expect editorial support along the way, offering advice on how to improve submitted works. Editors will collaborate to make a decision at the end of the evaluation period. You can read more about the evaluation process for Topic Writers here.
